Deed of Covenant Service

Posted on Wednesday 20th March

A special service was held in Ottery St Mary church on Tuesday evening to mark a significant moment in history for the governance of the church. Bishop Jackie came to lead the service and to sign the new Deed of Covenant drawn up between the Governors and the PCC.

Set up under Henry VIII the Governors have been part of the life of church for nearly 500 years and remain the custodian trustees of the building and land as well as holding the historic monies of the church. The new Deed formally passes the day to day running of the church into the hands of the PCC.

The service was a wonderful occasion to offer thanks to those who have served as Governors, assistant governors and the retiring clerk.
