The Church of England has tragically not always been a safe place for everyone. Nor has it always responded as it should to incidents of abuse. This week’s resignation of the Archbishop of Canterbury is indicative of this. There is still some way to go in improving institutional structures.

At grassroots parish level, safeguarding has for a long time taken the highest priority. The welfare of everyone, particularly those who are vulnerable, is paramount.

Our churches’ safeguarding policy is available on this site . The page also gives contact details of each church’s Safeguarding Officer.

If you or someone you know has experienced abuse in, or as a result of, the C of E, a confidential and independent helpline is available at Safe Spaces https://safespacesenglandandwales.org.uk/
