Why visit our church?
Ottery St Mary church is a stunning Grade 1 listed medieval church. Finished in 1345, it is a sister to Exeter Cathedral, with a rare example of two towers. There are fascinating details both outisde and inside the church from carvings, to memorials, to ceiling bosses. The church has a family connection to Samuel Taylor Coleridge and there are permament display boards detailing his life as well as a stunning sculpture by Nicholas Dimbleby. The church shop is open every day and a guide book is available to purchase.
When is the church open?
The church is open from 9 AM to 5:30 PM each day but is closed to ALL visitors during these activities:
- Tots’ Time Mondays 1.30PM – 3.30PM,
- Tots’ Praise Wednesdays 9.30AM to 10.30AM,
- Bright Star’s choir and Lighthouse choir Thursdays 3.30PM – 6PM.
- Contractors on site and health and safety requires church closure.
There are often services happening during the week: funerals, baptisms, weddings and other special services. We ask that you are particularly considerate of these services and avoid visiting the church at this time unless of course you would like to attend the service itself.
Before setting off on your journey, please check the calendar below to make sure the church is open.
Before leaving our church
